 | NORML News: Hooray for Hash! |
By the Bush Doctor. Norml News Summer 2002/3
This season promises to be the Kiwi Summer of Hash. Thanks to the old-fashioned silkscreen, it is easy to make hash from trimmings, leaf or bud.
The latest hash sweeping the world and twice winning the Cannabis Cup is ice hash made using cold water and filter bags. The results seen so far by the Norml inspection team have been impressive.
Hash is healthier to smoke than marijuana, as smokers only require tiny amounts to get high, and if pure, the hash will have little cellulose which is the part that creates harmful tars when burnt.
The process is simple. A bucket or tub is lined with two bags, one inside the other, that have been constructed from two different silk screens.
The screen size of the inner bag is about 120 micron, which allows the crystals to pass through, but retains the plant material.
The outer bag is about 25 micron which is too small for the crystals to get through.
The plant material is placed inside the inner bag and then filled with ice water (ideally cooler than 4 degrees) then agitated with a mixer for about 30 minutes, and then left to settle.
The crystals separate from the plant material and pass down through the inner 120 micron bag and trapped in the outer 25 micron bag.
The inner bag is then removed and the contents discarded.
The outer 25 micron will be coated in crystals, which are removed and dried carefully.
Once dry it can be pressed into hash for long term storage.
If it’s done well, ice hash will melt and bubble as it burns. Enjoy!
