International J Day is always the first Saturday in May, so this year that means Saturday 2nd May. NORML organised events in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin, for people to come along and show their support for repealing cannabis prohibition.
We need your support now more than ever. This year the UN is reviewing it's anti-drug conventions and the signs are looking promising. Here in New Zealand the Law Commission, an independent non-political body charged with fixing broken laws, has turned it's attention to the Misuse of Drugs Act.
J Day is part of the Global Marijuana March, happening in over 200 cities around the world.

Otago University's NORML group has, for the past two or three years, gathered on the Union Lawn every Friday at 4:20pm for a protest against cannabis prohibition and old-fashioned smoke-in, known as the Friday 4:20.
Following a dispute between Campus Watch and NORML over whether the smoke-in should be tolerated, the group featured on the front page of the Otago Daily Times, and TV One's Close Up show attended, complete with gas masks. Tim Shadbolt rues the increasing popularity of cannabis - all it has done is increase the price for other users such as himself.
The Invercargill mayor's observation is one of many from prominent people in a three-part television documentary examining the history of New Zealand's illicit drug scene.
High Times, the brainchild of director and researcher David Herkt, starts with the arrest of Anna Hoffman for selling marijuana to an undercover policeman in Auckland about 1960. It was the first such arrest in New Zealand.

By Megan Farrington, AlterNet Posted May 27, 2005.
A Dutch official hopes the creation of "cannabis boulevards" will help
alleviate the problem of drug tourism in the Netherlands.
Gerd Leers was once a staunch prohibitionist in the Dutch Parliament,
but three years as a local leader have changed his perspective. Leers,
now the Mayor of Maastricht, a Dutch border city, is calling for the
creation of "cannabis boulevards" in border areas to ease problems
associated with cross-border drug tourism. He also seeks regulation of
the supply of marijuana to coffee shops to eliminate a robust black
market created by the fact that production of the plant is illegal in
the Netherlands.

BUSH DOCTOR, NORML News Winter 2004.
Literally, they suck the life-blood out of your plants. The warm, humid conditions and abundant food in a greenhouse provide an excellent, stable environment for pest development, so the sooner you are on to them the better.

NORML's 2004 Summer Smokin' Tour lands in Auckland with a special J DAY called Summer Sessions. The popular free event featuring music, games and guest speakers will run from High Noon to 4:20 on Saturday February 21.
The Valentine's Day J Day has been postponed one week due to adverse weather forecasts. NORML had to make the decision whether to cancel or not at 8am when it was pouring with rain and further showers were expected.
J Day Summer Sessions will now be held one week later, at the same time and place with all acts confirmed. Come along and demand your equal rights and an end to the war on drug users. Celebrate being part of Aotearoa's cannabis culture!
